Duration: 6 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * appreciate the role of teamworking within organisations,
    * understand how teams are best constructed,
    * develop an awareness of the different roles and personality types in teamworking,
    * work effectively as a team member,
    * develop a range of skills effective in teamworking,
    * implement team actions.

 
2. *Customer Service (D 20151) (Level 5) 
            

Duration: 4 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * understand the role of customer service in organisational effectiveness,
    * understand the role and responsibilities of a representative of an organisation and work effectively as part of a team,
    * acquire a range of verbal and non-verbal skills in order to meet customer needs, handle customer complaints and deliver good customer care,
    * become familiar with consumer protection legislation,
    * appreciate the rights of all customers regardless of gender, marital status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, race or culture.

3. *Personal Effectiveness in the Workplace (G 20033) (Level 5)

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * be familiar with the organisation in which they are active,
    * understand their role within the organisation,
    * appreciate the influence of the organisation on their own day to day activity,
    * develop a range of skills relevant to their daily activity,
    * work effectively within the organisation.

 4. *Union Learning Representatives (N 32725) (Level 6)

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

    * promoting awareness among colleagues and managers of the importance of upskilling, learning and development,
    * promoting the value and benefits of learning and addressing concerns among colleagues about concerns they may have around training and learning,
    * working jointly with management on identifying and meeting training/learning needs,
    * providing information and advice on training/learning opportunities to colleagues,
    * analysing training/learning needs of work colleagues and preparing and coordinating colleagues to participate in training and development.

 
5. *Computer Literacy (BF 0133) (Level 3)             

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * understand the essential elements of computer hardware and software,
    * operate common computer applications,
    * demonstrate good work habits in the use and care of the computer and related equipment.

 

6. *Information Technology Skills (B 10135) (Level 4)             

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * understand the terminology associated with hardware and software,
    * acquire the essential skills to operate a computer,
    * develop the skills required to enter and manipulate text using a word processing package,
    * acquire the skills needed to use the Internet.

 
7. *Computer Applications (B 10009) (Level 4)             

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * develop the skills to create and query a database,
    * develop the skills to enter and manipulate data from a spreadsheet package,
    * develop the skills to enter and manipulate images using a drawing package,
    * demonstrate good work habits in the use and care of the computer and related equipment.

 
8. *Train the Trainer (E 30179) (Level 6)             

Duration 6 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * understand different learning styles,
    * understand the functions and processes of learning and training,
    * evaluate different approaches to training,
    * appreciate the importance of training on an individual, social and economic level,
    * work effectively with a range of learner groups,
    * design, deliver and evaluate training programmes,
    * develop and implement appropriate assessment methods.

 
9. *Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) (L 3130/2) 
            

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * become familiar with the development of maintenance philosophies that led to the development of the concept of TPM,
    * understand the perception of the maintenance role in manufacturing industry,
    * understand what constitutes good maintenance department performance,
    * understand the impact of machine conditions on quality and the importance of prevention strategy for eliminating defects,
    * understand the concepts of machine availability, performance rate and yield (quality rate),
    * become familiar with the techniques of “Brainstorming”,
    * understand the effect of changing technologies on skills.

 
10. Job Skills Development (CV preparation/Interviewing technique)


Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * identify own skills,
    * develop a personal success inventory,
    * identify optimum career path,
    * develop a good CV,
    * strategic job searching,
    * develop effective interview skills,
    * develop effective communication skills.

 
11. *Retail Selling (B 20037) (Level 5)            

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * conduct a sale requiring personal selling from opening through to the closing stage,
    * demonstrate thorough product knowledge when conducting a sale,
    * appreciate the ethics of selling,
    * handle payments using a range of methods,
    * appreciate the importance of good presentation and interpersonal skills.

 
12. *Start Your Own Business (B 20153) (Level 5)            

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will:

    * develop appropriate knowledge and skills for starting a business,
    * understand the processes involved in starting, operating and evaluating a business,
    * appreciate how a range of internal and external factors can influence the development of a business,
    * appreciate the importance of good planning, organisation, implementation and evaluation skills.

 
13. *Safepass (Construction Industry)                          

Duration: 1 day

General Aims:

    * raise the standard of safety awareness in the construction industry,
    * ensure that all site personnel undergo basic health and safety awareness training with the view to making a positive contribution to the prevention of accidents and avoidance of health hazards,
    * maintain a register of personnel who have received such training,
    * provide all participants with a FAS Safepass registration card, which will indicate that the holder has attended a formal course in health and safety.

14. Diversity, Bullying & Harassment            

Duration: 1 day

General Aims:

    * according to the Health and Safety Act 2005 all employees have a responsibility to be aware of the company policy on Dignity at work and a duty of care to report any instances of bullying, sexual harassment or harassment that they are a party or witness to,
    * after the above course, employees will be able to fulfil the above.

15. Partnership Training            

Duration: 2-3 days

General Aims:

    * provide individual with the necessary skills/knowledge to participate effectively, individually and as part of a Partnership Group using the consensus approach,
    * to familiarise new and experienced participants in how to operate effectively as an individual and in group in a Partnership Way according to the revised Partnership Agreement.

 16. Problem Solving            

Duration: 5 days

General Aims:

    * follow an orderly, step-by-step problem-solving process,
    * write problem statements that clearly define problems encountered in work situations,
    * assess the contexts of problems,
    * analyse the likely root causes of problems,
    * involve team members in evaluating the root causes and possible solutions,
    * create plans to implement solutions to problems,
    * agree and support implementation.

 17. Information and Consultation             

Duration: 2 days

General Aims:

    * understanding of the “Directive 2002/14/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 2002 establishing a general framework for informing and consulting employees in the European Community”,
    * application of that understanding.

18. Chairing Meetings                          

Duration: 1 day

General Aims:

    * to understand the function of administration,
    * to organise and facilitate content,
    * to understand and focus process/group dynamic.

 
19. Safety Representative            

Duration: 3 days

General Aims:

    * the aim of this programme is to impart to the trainees the skills and knowledge necessary to become competent in discharging the role and function of a safety representative in Irish industry.
